The first Rwanda national table tennis league got underway over the weekend at Sunset Gardens at Kagugu in Kigali.
The league will run for the next three months, Kimisagara lost their opening game to Vision TTC by 3-0 sets.
Vision’s player Frank Bishema overcame Jean Claude Nzeyimana, of Kimisagara, 11-5, 11-6, and 11-2.
However, Kimisagara bounced back to register a first win on Sunday as they beat Gasabo 3-1. In the other games played on Sunday, De La Salle TTC beat Vision TTC in three (3-0) sets but later lost 3-0 to Gasabo TTC.
According to Rwanda table tennis federation (RTTF), the league will resume on September 29, with Gasabo taking on De La Salle at Sunset Gardens, while Kimisagara TTC will be up against Rilima. Still on the same day, Rilima will battle Vision and Rafiki face De La Salle TTC.
The table tennis league was initially supposed to start last month but was delayed because seven players from different clubs and three coaches had gone to China for a two-month training camp.
Meanwhile, on Friday, RTTF will donate equipment, including table tennis tables, to different clubs and schools as part of their development programme to promote the sport in Rwanda.
